About the role

This is a unique opportunity to support a whole-of-Country approach to caring for waterways, catchments and Katungal (Sea Country) across a culturally significant region.

Working within a small, connected team, you will help strengthen the relationship between community, culture and water—supporting Traditional Owner knowledge, engagement and long-term planning across Country. You will play a key role in the development and coordination of the Sea Country Indigenous Protected Area (IPA), working closely with community, partners and stakeholders to ensure cultural values are embedded in water planning and land management.

Key responsibilities
  • Coordinate Traditional Owner engagement and cultural values mapping
  • Support development and delivery of the Sea Country IPA Plan
  • Build partnerships with community and supporting organisations
  • Participate in community events to capture cultural knowledge of water and Country
  • Work with Rangers, RAP team and stakeholders to connect river systems to Sea Country
  • Liaise with Catchment Management Authorities and external networks
  • Monitor and report on project progress, outcomes and delivery
  • Ensure all activities align with agreements, policies and cultural protocols
About you

You are someone who thrives working on Country, values community connection, and is passionate about protecting cultural and environmental knowledge for future generations.

You will bring:
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities
  • High level of computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Experience engaging respectfully with Aboriginal communities and organisations
  • Strong planning, coordination and reporting capability
A qualification in Environmental Science, Conservation Land Management or similar is desirable, however relevant experience will also be highly regarded.

Requirements
  • Current Victorian Manual Driver’s Licence
  • Willingness to work away from home when required
  • Ability to complete mandatory training
  • Working With Children Check & Police Check
  • Fitness testing, drug & alcohol screening, and vaccination compliance
