About the Role

GBS Recruitment is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Dairy Farmers for casual work at the Ellinbank SmartFarm, a world leading commercial dairy and research facility operated by Agriculture Victoria Research (AVR).

This is a hands-on, physically active role ideal for someone with experience in dairy farming, who enjoys working outdoors and being part of a team. You will assist with milking, feeding, fencing, and livestock management, helping to maintain high standards of animal care. Casual rate is $38.14 per hour plus applicable penalties and superannuation.

Responsibilities

Dairy Operations

Prepare and assist with milking operations (400+ cows)
Monitor herd health and assist with treatments
Maintain hygienic standards in the dairy and stock yards

Animal Care

Move and handle stock safely
Identify basic health issues
Assist with vaccinations, drenching, and other treatments

General Farm Work

Set up temporary fencing and maintain stock yards
Load and transport feed (hay, silage)
Operate farm machinery such as tractors
Assist with irrigation, water systems, and general farm maintenance

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience in dairy farming or milking operations of 150+ cows
Is physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
Has a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude
Enjoys working with animals and being part of a team
Can operate farm machinery confidently (tractors, 4WD, etc.)
Is reliable, practical, and willing to learn new skills

Mandatory Requirements

Australian Working Rights
Current Driver Licence
Physically fit for outdoor work
Q Fever vaccination or willingness to obtain
Police Check or willingness to obtain
