This role is about more than land management — it’s about ensuring Traditional Knowledge, cultural authority, and self-determination are embedded in how landscapes are understood, protected, and restored. You’ll take ownership of a Cultural Landscapes Program that brings together community, Elders, partners, and technical specialists to guide meaningful outcomes on Country.
You’ll play a key leadership role in shaping cultural landscape assessments, supporting cultural fire and restoration practices, protecting cultural knowledge, and contributing to major initiatives including biocultural mapping and large-scale infrastructure planning.
This is a role for someone who can operate at the intersection of culture, environment, and strategy — and is ready to lead with purpose.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead the Cultural Landscapes Program and implement key framework objectives
- Oversee cultural landscape assessments, mapping, and reporting
- Support cultural fire, restoration, biodiversity, and on-Country programs
- Work with Elders, community, and stakeholders to ensure cultural authority is embedded in decision-making
- Protect Traditional Knowledge and cultural intellectual property (ICIP)
- Contribute to major initiatives including biocultural values mapping and strategic land-use planning
- Develop and implement cultural, land, and landscape management plans
- Support policy, governance, and partnership development across programs
- Background in Indigenous Studies, Ecology, Environmental Science, Cultural Heritage, Geography, or related field — OR equivalent cultural knowledge and lived experience
- Strong leadership and program management capability
- Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with community and stakeholders
- Experience working across land, culture, and environmental programs
- Strong communication, planning, and coordination skills
- Understanding of cultural governance, Country-based approaches, and Traditional Owner aspirations
