Our client, a leading Victorian water authority, is seeking an experienced Accounting Officer to join their team on a short-term temporary basis.

About the Role

The Accounting Officer will play a key role within our client’s Finance team, providing day-to-day support across a broad range of accounting functions. Working closely with the wider Finance team, you’ll help keep financial processes running smoothly while supporting the team through a busy period. Due to a period of leave, this is a two-month temporary opportunity, offering a great chance to step into a well-established organisation and hit the ground running.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting, reconciliations and statutory accounts.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cash and debt reports.
  • Complete monthly General Ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with GST, FBT and Income Tax obligations.
  • Support General Ledger systems and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Provide financial reporting, analysis and ad-hoc system support.
  • Provide back-up support across Payroll, Accounts Payable and Revenue Processing.
  • Identify and manage risks, escalating issues as required.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience in accounting, bookkeeping or a similar finance role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, systems and processes.
  • High level of accuracy with financial reporting and reconciliations.
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Proactive approach with a focus on process improvement.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and accounting software.
