About the Client
Australian Sustainable Hardwoods (ASH) was established over 30 years ago and has grown to become one of the largest hardwood timber mills and integrated manufacturers in Australia.  Located in Heyfield, ASH operates 6 manufacturing lines, including moulding, laminating, finger-jointing, deep splitting, set length docking and mass-timber production.  ASH is now expanding their operations and currently have multiple roles available across their two sites.   
About the Role
As a manufacturing operator, you will initially be required to undertake repetitive manual handling tasks, classified as having medium to heavy physical demand requirement such as moving and stacking timber and general cleaning.   Upon further training, you will also undertake machine operation - from simple to complex machine centres undertaking sophisticated operations and quality monitoring.

We are seeking reliable and hardworking people that are self-motivated and use their initiative to complete tasks.  The ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team is essential.  To be a successful candidate for this role, you should also possess the following qualifications and attributes:
  • A current driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle essential as public transport is not available.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Machine Operation experience in a manufacturing setting (preferred but not essential).
  • Forklift licence desirable, but not essential
  • Fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Availability for flexible work hours, including overtime to support training and rotation.
  • A strong commitment to safety and a general understanding of workplace health and safety/OH&S practices
  • Ability to work consistently at a production level work pace.
  • Ability to tolerate all weather conditions, loud conditions, vibrations, and airborne particles such as sawdust (PPE is provided).
ASH is committed to developing their team and promoting from within. Training will be provided to individuals who demonstrate the right qualities and a willingness to learn. While previous work experience is preferred, it is not essential. Candidates with farming backgrounds who are accustomed to working around tractors, have machinery aptitude, and are physically fit and strong are often successful in a role such as this. However, we welcome applications from anyone who meets the qualifications and attributes mentioned above.

The hours of work will vary depending on the worksite.  The Dry Mill site hours of work are Monday to Thursday, 3.00pm to 12am and every second Friday, 2.30pm to 11.00pm.  The Green Mill site hours of work are Monday to Thursday, 4.00pm to 12am and Friday, 2.30pm – 11.00pm. 

As a condition of employment, candidates will need to successfully complete a variety of pre-employment checks, including an interview, a Functional Capacity Assessment, Drug and Alcohol testing, reference checks x 2, prior work verification, and skills testing.

To maintain the safety of workers onsite, ASH is a drug and alcohol-free workplace.  Random Drug and Alcohol testing of all employees and contractors is also regularly undertaken.
